Professor Letavec charges his MGT 773 (Project
Planning, Evaluation, and Control) students with contacting a non-profit organization
to complete a project that both the students and the non-profit agree
upon. These projects are to be completed
within nine weeks by teams of seven or eight students. The students who are near their MBA
completion with a concentration in project management are required to evaluate,
plan, and control the project utilizing industry standards. Professor Letavec has approximately ten teams
working in the community this quarter.
One of these teams that included; Alex
Bohnert, Rebekah Fleck, Karleine Justice, Makenzie Resor, Jordan Jacobs,
Jenifer Slone, and Angela Griner contacted Kate Quigley, Volunteer Supervisor,
with St. Leonard in Centerville. Kate
provided the team with a container garden design and planting project and
explained that the design needed the love of the team for the residence of St.
Leonard to enjoy. Residence rooms and
activity areas look out on the courtyard so it was important that the garden
provided a great view from every angle.
Project financing is not the responsibility
of WSU or the students. Teams are permitted to seek donations to assist with
project financing. Grandma’s Garden in
Waynesville provided a generous donation of 37 flowers. Paulette and her staff assisted
the team in selecting flowers that met St. Leonard’s expectations.
Approximately eighty flowers were picked up by
the students from Grandma’s Garden on Thursday, May 3rd and
delivered to St. Leonard. The team
planted the flowers in seventeen containers on Saturday, May 5th. This project brought a lot of joy to the St.
Leonard residence and students. St.
Leonard has a great staff to work with and the team would encourage you to
think about volunteering with St. Leonard.
