Team Franciscan Center Spa: A Good Night's Sleep!

Stephanie Madachy, Massage Therapist

It's the beginning of a brand new year and we're all familiar with New Year Resolution's. In order to fulfill those resolutions, we need to be well-rested. The best way to wake up refreshed is to get a good night's sleep. Let's have a look at a few simple ideas how to do that.

  1. Make time to exercise each day. Just 30-60 minutes of exercise will improve your mental and physical well-being.

  2. Everyone reacts to caffeine differently. Try to enjoy your last caffeinated beverage 4-6 hours before bedtime.

  3. Attempt to get to bed at the same time nightly.

  4. For 2nd and 3rd shift-workers, when you are heading to bed and the sun is rising, falling asleep can be a challenge! Here's some great news, invest in an inexpensive eyemask and/or room-darkening shades/curtains; they really do work!

  5. If you are a light sleeper, add white noise to your room; a simple fan will drown out most noises.

  6. Meditation is very calming and relaxing to the mind. Take some time to quietly reflect on things you are grateful for. Positive affirmations, and prayer are great ways to end each day.

Maybe you can add one or two of these ideas to your wellness program and get a fresh start to each new day. Remember, these are just a few of the many ways we can adjust our waking habits in order to live each day to it's fullest!

Blessings~
