Emotional well-being can be influenced by what you give the most attention concerning situation and environment. This has led behavioral scientist to believe that you can shift your mood by developing an “attentional bias” to those situations and environments that promote well-being. The research indicates that when individuals biased their attention toward positive situations and environmental factors in life they report a greater satisfaction in life. It might be important to note that emotional "ill-being" has an impact on all other dimensions of wellness as it may negatively influence mental health, physiological stability, neurobiological systems, and promote adverse cognitive changes.

Team Dance No. 10: Foxtrot and Rumba!
Presently I am teaching Foxtrot which requires the man to stay over his feet and legs as he leads the woman to go back, forward and side together in the basic pattern. Also, in the basic Rhumba pattern which I will call the Rhumba Box the technique is side together forward and side together back ____all done inside of foot and ball of foot as the man shifts his weight on the forward and backward steps whereas the man in Foxtrot goes forward (heel/ball) and backward (ball/heel). After this eight week session we should have a combination of six to seven pattern in each dance. Please tell your friends about our program. Team Fitness Gurus No. 23: Dizziness!
Dizziness is a common complaint of all age groups and while it is often associated with co-morbidity, light-exercise has been reported to improve symptoms and reported outcomes. Recent research reported in the clinical section of Gerontology found that even light exercise can reduce dizziness in older adults. In fact, short walks were considered beneficial in reducing dizziness and improving quality of life. This might be something to consider, and to discuss with your physician before you decide to engage in light exercise. If your doctor believes that you are healthy enough for light exercise, consider walking for short distances with a friend or social walking group to reduce risks concerning the uncertainty of reoccurring dizziness. Remember to avoid taking unnecessary risks and train safely. |

Team Events: Winter Socialization!
As the depths of winter near, most people are inclined to stay indoors and out of the cold weather. Continued socialization throughout the gloomy and overcast winter months is important for your overall sense of wellness and health. Fortunately, there are plenty of events (inside where it is warm) to attend on campus to get you out of the house and interacting with more people! Central to this mission is the “Vital Life Wellness Spectrum,” which possesses eight components of wellness. It can be argued that the social dimension is the most important, especially when the “winter blues” are most prominent. We are all incredibly fortunate to live in a social community here at

Team Beauty Shop No:7; Wrinkles
Angie Pickering Salon Manager
Wrinkles etch into the skin as time takes its toll on the body. Aging is an inevitable fact of life, but lifestyle factors and key products play a part in reducing how fast you age. The results you achieve are also cumulative, meaning that you must put forth a consistent effort over time to achieve the desired results.
Stress: The Total Beauty Health News website referenced a stress study done at the
Sleep: According to "Good Housekeeping," getting adequate sleep helps prevent wrinkles because the body produces HGH (human growth hormone) when you are well rested. This hormone helps prevent wrinkles by improving the skin's elasticity. The magazine also says that your body produces excess cortisol when you don't get enough sleep, which can break down cells faster.
Diet: The AOL News Website says to eat a healthy diet rich in vitamins to prevent wrinkles. Choose foods such as fruits and vegetables that contain high levels of vitamins A and C. Broccoli is high in calcium and vitamin A, and one bell pepper has more vitamin C than three oranges. Drink 8 to 10 glasses of purified water a day, and avoid drinking sodas and other beverages that dehydrate your body.
The Washington Post says eating salmon and other oily fish helps prevent wrinkles because these foods contain high amounts of omega-3 fats and other nutrients that are beneficial for the skin.
Wrinkle Products: Buy wrinkle fighting creams, eye serums and other facial products that contain high levels of antioxidants, such as vitamins A and C. The first ingredient listed on the label is the main ingredient in a product. The University of Maryland Medical Center recommends a long list of ingredients to look for. Some of these include vitamin A, C, E, aloe and glycolic acid, just to name a few.
Limit Sun Exposure: "Good Housekeeping" also says that sun exposure results in more wrinkles. Wear sunscreen when spending a lot of time outdoors in addition to protective hats and sun glasses.
Avoid Smoking: According to "Good Housekeeping," smoking also contributes to wrinkles because it releases an enzyme that breaks down collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are fibers that help skin maintain a healthy glow and softness. ~Demand Media 2012~

Team Fraciscan Center: Deep Tissue Massage!
First and foremost, deep tissue massage is a technique that aims to relieve the deeper structures of muscle and fascia. It uses many of the same movements as Swedish massage; however the sessions are often more intense as a result of deliberate, focused work. Many people associate deep tissue massage with “deep pressure” massage, these are not the same. Deep pressure massage is a technique that is performed with sustained strong, occasionally intense pressure throughout and entire full-body session. Not only is this technique physically intense on the therapist, it may also lead to injury of localized muscle or nerve trauma.
Deep tissue is great for people with chronically tense areas, specifically when adhesions are involved. It is also beneficial for people with limited mobility, postural problems, fibromyalgia, repetitive strain, and osteoarthritis pain. It is NOT recommended for people with infectious skin diseases, open wounds, acute injury, varicose veins, immediately after surgery, those prone to blood clots, those who bruise easily, areas with sensation loss, deep vein thrombosis, and contagious conditions. Those with osteoporosis should obtain written permission from their doctor before receiving a deep tissue massage. If you think you could benefit from a deep tissue massage, call the
Team Franciscan Center: Safe and Comfortable Workout Gear!
Dr. Jack Harless The Franciscan Center Manager
Happy New Year! As the temperature drops it’s important to keep our spirits up and one of the best ways to stay on top of your game is through movement and exercise with friends. I wanted to share some information with you about correct exercise attire that will keep everyone safe & comfortable while they’re having fun this new year. This information is taken from the livestrong.com website:
Proper Clothing & Shoes for Exercising: Exercise is necessary to keep you physically and mentally healthy. When you're working out, you want to be as comfortable as possible. It is important to wear the right clothing and shoes. The purpose of fitness clothing is to keep you comfortable, allow for correct freedom of movement and in some cases, help your performance. Proper clothing will allow you to feel more comfortable during workouts, control your temperature and enhance your performance. Carefully choosing the right fit and style of exercise shoe can prevent you from suffering a lower body injury.
Suggested Workout Clothing: Wear workout clothes that are breathable and movable. Look for clothes that are comfortable and allow a free range of motion. Restrictive clothing or clothing made from synthetic fabrics is typically less breathable than cotton, linen and high-tech fabrics that help wick away sweat and keep you cool while you work out. Try workout clothes on before you buy them to ensure the proper fit and comfort. Take note of any bothersome stitching, tags or emblems that cannot be altered after purchasing.
Suggested Workout Shoes: Whether your workout involves running, walking, sports or gym equipment, a proper sport shoe is a must. Injury caused by inappropriate shoes can needlessly derail your fitness or weight loss attempt. Choosing a proper shoe can help you to prevent foot and ankle damage, and make your workout a more pleasant and comfortable experience. Good shoes can lessen the impact of your step and cushion the foot from heavy landings.

Team Spiritual Care: The Purpose of Religion
Religion has various functions at various stages of life. It is a guidepost from early life through to the end. It is a direction, a map. But it is not a guarantee of anything. Religion has corrupted as much as it has saved. Clearly, there must be something more than the religion itself that must be our goal.
In early life, in youth, the function of religion is the formation of conscience. Religion sets the standards that mark the path. Every religion, according to the Universal Code of Ethics adopted at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in
In middle age, religion becomes a social guide. It is a measure of our relationship with others. It creates the standards that measure the quality of the soul as well as the behaviors of the person. It becomes an attitude toward life. Some things are holy, some things are not. It is the ideals to which we cling, even as we drift a bit from the moorings of our early life. All the absolutes begin to be tested. We begin to understand that religion is more a deep-down struggle to believe and to do than simply a way of acting, sterile on paper, full of thorns in the flesh.
Finally, as we grow older, when we begin the last stage of life, it is clear that behaviors and failures are not the stuff of religion much anymore. Now, the ecstasy of life and the surrender to the Mystery become the last of the revelations of religion. Now, everything we learned long ago, gave up to some degree long ago, never left completely long ago, begins to make sense. Begins to become me. Begins my new beginning as a person.
Then, in the later years, religion ceases to be simply a series of rites and rituals, of rules and answers for which I get some kind of eternal points. Religion becomes what it was always meant to
Religion is not a millstone around the neck anymore. It is the warm, soft, strong, hard awareness that yes, it has all been for something worthwhile.
