Blue Zone Your Memory No. 21: The Brain and the Aging Process

From the research, it looks as if there may be things that we can do to protect our brain from the destructive forces of aging. Protecting your brain is essential for function and longevity. The brain is an amazing organ weighing around three pounds, and it is said that it is the most complex structure on earth. The brain is involved in every aspect of our life, and a few examples include: decision-making, the storage and retrieval of memory, handling data from our senses, digestion, body temperature, and even blood pressure and heart rate.

Simple efforts to protect our brain from aging may include reducing stress levels, regular exercise, improving the quality of sleep, and reducing exposure to toxic substances. The latest and probably most exciting research has linked brain health to being active and social with others.
