The Quest for Emotional Wellness No.23: Grieving the Loss of Unhealthy Behaviors

When we let go of unhealthy behaviors it is important to realize that there may be some feelings of loss. Sometimes this means that when we leave unhealthy lifestyle choices behind this might require distancing oneself from negative influences or unhealthy environments. Any loss is a powerful stressor in our lives, and it is ok to acknowledge this and take time to nurture our emotional well-being back to good health.

Team Spiritual Care: Open Your Hands

Sister Kateri Theriault

Jesus taught that we have a fundamental choice to make: to hold tight to whatever we find of value or to let go of all for the sake of Christ and the gospel. Most of us find ourselves somewhere in the middle—probably more on the side of grasping than letting go, if we’re honest about it. Perhaps the story of the closed fist vs. the open palm can help loosen our grip. Both can hold a precious jewel, but a closed fist can receive nothing more than what it already holds, while an upward-facing open palm can hold the jewel and also be filled with much more. Keep your hands open and leave room for the gifts of the Spirit.

Virtual Team Parkinson's Update: Improving Motor Performance

Dr. Jack Harless

We currently have 16 members.  This week we looked at a study published in the journal of Movement Disorders from 2010 that compared three different forms of exercise & their efficacy as determined by the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) motor score over a 16 week period.  The type of exercise that was most effective at creating functional change was an intense high-amplitude form of movement derived from the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment

Team Tidwell: Mission Trip To Ethiopia

Hi everyone, the attached pictures were taken very early this morning. My son, Doug, & their daughter, Hannah, left today for a two week medical mission trip to Ethiopia. They are part of a large group consisting of medical personnel as well as missionaries. Doug & Hannah are part of the medical team that will be performing heart surgeries on teenagers & young adults. Doug is the only perfusionist on the team. Hannah is a nursing student set to graduate in Dec. While there, part of the team will be visiting an orphanage. The men in the St. L. Woodworking shop donated 82 of the hand made cars. These cars were a huge hit last year as the little ones have few if any toys.

The pictures show how much equipment had to be sent with Doug & Hannah. Filled a large van as well as a sport vehicle.

My prayers are for a safe & successful trip for all involved - patients & volunteers.

Cathy
