Team Tidwell: The Radish and the Garden Plan!

For the second year in a row, Harold & I are planting a garden here @ St. Leonard.  This afternoon (hot as you know what!) we were working up there.  He was using the roto tiller and I was on my hands and knees (need sympathy!) pulling the weeds.  I found this radish (only one!)!  We will split it for supper this evening.  The lettuce should be ready by this w/e.  The only items that we have planted so far are onions (almost ready), radishes, lettuce, several kinds of beans and carrots.  He "prefers" that I do NOT plant pumpkins this year.  I couldn't help it last year that they seemed to take over the garden!  Will let you know when we set up our vegetable stand. ~Cathy

Team Home and Garden: Social Vegetable Garden!

Supervisor Tom Hess prepared the ground for this year's social vegetable garden. Soon we will see the garden plots sectioned off and the beginnings of each family's tried and tested formulas and social wisdom for gardening fun!

Team Tidwell: Late Summer Harvest Update from the Social Gardens!

The attached picture demonstrates the results of our "pumpkin patch". PITIFUL! Definitely not the "great" pumpkin patch. In fact, it reminds me of Charlie Brown's pitiful Christmas tree. According to Harold, the pumpkin vines tried to take over the garden. I guess we won't try them next year. On the bright side, the vegetables that we harvested have been quite plentiful as well as tasteful. I even made and froze Marinara sauce as well as several Italian vegetable stews (one is in the crock pot right now). I have had a great time, managed to get a little tan as well as meet fellow "gardeners".

Love to all Cathy

Team Home and Garden: St. Elizabeth Social Garden Late Summer Update!

There can be no other occupation like gardening in which, if you were to creep up behind someone at their work, you would find them smiling.~ Mirabel Osler

Team Tidwell: The Hot Summer and Gardening at St. Leonard

Note the sunflowers facing East and welcoming the new day. Most of the gardens are thriving in spite of the weeds. -Cathy

Team Home and Garden: Denise's Front Yard!

The spring and summer weather challenged many gardens this year, but St. Leonard's cottage and garden home areas are stunningly beautiful!

Team JBR: Beautiful Gardens!

Residents at JBR have been quite busy planting and maintaining some beautiful flower gardens around Joseph Bernardin Residence. Each of the following residents have taken charge of, and take great pride in, a particular garden: Emma DiSalvo, Roberta Tanner, Phyllis Bacher & Ruth Hughes, Mattie Click and Beverly Lightcap. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for beautifying our lovely home here at St. Leonard. -Submitted by Sister Christine Doerger~
