The poet Robert Browning wrote, "Grow old along with me!" "The best is yet to be." Recent research supports Browning in his poetic thoughts in that emotions do stabilize over time. It is the maturity and wisdom that people gain with age that allow them to be less reactive and regulate their emotional responses. In fact, in several studies negative emotions were reported less often after the age of 60. Researchers believe that this is because older adults tend to value emotionally fulfilling relationships and seek closer social networks. |
