The benefits of walking continue to grow. We know that walking can help our physical, emotional, and social dimensions of wellness, but research now says that walking can help our intellectual well-being by reducing the possibility of having a stroke. In fact, one research effort found that a daily 20 minute walk can cut the risk of having a stroke by 57% (Ratey, 2008). Ratey commented that walking, a form of aerobic exercise, is like "'Miracle-Grow' food for the brain, 'fertilizing' cells to keep them functioning and growing" (2008). Tuck this information in your wellness journal to use anytime you need motivation to continue your daily walking program. www.stleonard.net |
