Team Beauty Shop No:7; Wrinkles

Angie Pickering Salon Manager

Wrinkles etch into the skin as time takes its toll on the body. Aging is an inevitable fact of life, but lifestyle factors and key products play a part in reducing how fast you age. The results you achieve are also cumulative, meaning that you must put forth a consistent effort over time to achieve the desired results.

Stress: The Total Beauty Health News website referenced a stress study done at the University of San Francisco. The evidence revealed that cells age more quickly when exposed to chronic stress. This affects the skin's ability to produce collagen and maintain its healthy glow. The effects of stress on aging are cumulative, meaning that the body is affected over time. You can prevent wrinkles by dealing with stress. Lessen your obligations if you have too many, or do what you can to combat stress and help your body feel at ease. Take a hot bath at night or workout at the gym on a daily basis. You can also try meditating in the morning or taking more time off from work. Pay off debts to lessen the stressful burden that these expenses have on you and your family. Smile and try to maintain a positive mindset.

Sleep:
According to "Good Housekeeping," getting adequate sleep helps prevent wrinkles because the body produces HGH (human growth hormone) when you are well rested. This hormone helps prevent wrinkles by improving the skin's elasticity. The magazine also says that your body produces excess cortisol when you don't get enough sleep, which can break down cells faster.

Diet: The AOL News Website says to eat a healthy diet rich in vitamins to prevent wrinkles. Choose foods such as fruits and vegetables that contain high levels of vitamins A and C. Broccoli is high in calcium and vitamin A, and one bell pepper has more vitamin C than three oranges. Drink 8 to 10 glasses of purified water a day, and avoid drinking sodas and other beverages that dehydrate your body.

The Washington Post says eating salmon and other oily fish helps prevent wrinkles because these foods contain high amounts of omega-3 fats and other nutrients that are beneficial for the skin.

Wrinkle Products: Buy wrinkle fighting creams, eye serums and other facial products that contain high levels of antioxidants, such as vitamins A and C. The first ingredient listed on the label is the main ingredient in a product. The University of Maryland Medical Center recommends a long list of ingredients to look for. Some of these include vitamin A, C, E, aloe and glycolic acid, just to name a few.

Limit Sun Exposure: "Good Housekeeping" also says that sun exposure results in more wrinkles. Wear sunscreen when spending a lot of time outdoors in addition to protective hats and sun glasses.

Avoid Smoking: According to "Good Housekeeping," smoking also contributes to wrinkles because it releases an enzyme that breaks down collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are fibers that help skin maintain a healthy glow and softness. ~Demand Media 2012~

Team Beauty Shop: Healthy Beauty Tip No. 3

Submitted by Salon Manager Angie Pickering

To help remove residue and product build up on hair try this old fashioned remedy.

Mix an equal ratio of baking soda and water together and massage through hair, making sure that the eyes, nose, mouth, and ears are protected from solution entry into these sensitive areas. Shampoo afterward, and then rinse well and style as usual. Remember to check your list of allergies and possible medication interaction before using this technique.

Make an appointment for a trim. It's important to get your hair trimmed or shaped every 5-6 weeks to remove the ends. Regular trimming will also extend the life of your perm and make it easier for you to style.
