When we socialize with others, we bring a broad variety of attitudes, values, culturally learned assumptions, biases, beliefs, and behaviors to the relationship. Basically all social interaction can be considered a multicultural event because each of us is unique. Respecting and understanding our individual culture with all of its complexities is a excellent beginning to cultural diversity competence. Experts in the field state that our culture defines us and impacts our decision-making concerning cultural empathy both on an intentional and unintentional level. |
