Dizziness is a common complaint of all age groups and while it is often associated with co-morbidity, light-exercise has been reported to improve symptoms and reported outcomes. Recent research reported in the clinical section of Gerontology found that even light exercise can reduce dizziness in older adults. In fact, short walks were considered beneficial in reducing dizziness and improving quality of life. This might be something to consider, and to discuss with your physician before you decide to engage in light exercise. If your doctor believes that you are healthy enough for light exercise, consider walking for short distances with a friend or social walking group to reduce risks concerning the uncertainty of reoccurring dizziness. Training like an athlete means that your exercise plan has the most basic element of fitness, which is consistent exercise. The human body thrives on movement, exercise, and socialization. Concerning the recommendations for consistent exercise the U.S. Surgeon General has established these guidelines:

Be physically active. It is recommended that Americans accumulate at least 30 minutes (adults) or 60 minutes (children) of moderate physical activity most days of the week. Even greater amounts of physical activity may be necessary for the prevention of weight gain, for weight loss, or for sustaining weight loss.

What is moderate training? Moderate training is considered to be 10% above the level that your body has already adapted concerning your present physical fitness level.

Team Fitness Gurus: Creating Your Fitness Plan No. 2

Stereotyping is a concern for the athlete. Determining what each age group should be able to do from stereotypes is an athlete’s worst enemy. This attitude creates barriers for opportunities and developing physical fitness based on individual goals and abilities. The ages of 50, 60, 70, 80 and even 90 are not necessarily considered old anymore if we develop an athlete’s work and plan to remain vital.
