The restoration of the statue of St. Leonard involves restoring the patina that was put in place 50 years ago by George Kratina, who began his apprentice work in the sculpture guilds of Czechoslovakia. His talents grew to allow him to become a famous New York artist and sculptor.

I think you are off by a generation. The George Kratina that made this statue was born and raised in New York City. His father, also a sculptor and also George Kratina, is most likely the one who apprenticed in Czechoslovakia. The son often used the name K. George Kratina professionally to distinguish himself from the father.
